Geologist / trainee image log interpreter
13th June 2023 (this job is open until this listing is removed)
Due to strong demand for our services, we are seeking a geologist/trainee image log interpreter to join our small Perth-based team. You will be instrumental in growth of the company and will assist in laying the foundations for future growth. A passion for geology is essential, as is an interest in sedimentary systems, processes, and their products.
ImageStrat is an inclusive workplace that supports hybrid working and flexible hours. Our office is in West Perth and we will supply you with a laptop to work at home.
This is a Perth-based role, so candidates must have rights to work in Australia. Unfortunately, ImageStrat can not sponsor any visas at this time.
Responsibilities
Your role will be to assist with the analysis of borehole images, core-logging, and writing up of this work in the form of technical reports and presentations. Image log analysis includes structural geological analysis, chiefly of bedding orientations but also of fractures, and sedimentological analysis focusses on facies analysis. Core-logging studies consist of detailed core observations and facies analysis. Core logging studies are integrated with image log analyses to give a calibrated detailed sedimentological and structural understanding of subsurface deposits. Innovation is important and we seek candidates that can 'think outside the box' when it comes to moving our science forwards.
Qualifications
The ideal candidate will have a masters or PhD in sedimentology, stratigraphy, geomechanics, or structural geology and demonstrable experience (i.e. theses, peer-reviewed journal articles, first-author technical reports) in any of the above subjects. Previous experience in any or all of the following is highly desirable: core-logging, sequence stratigraphy, coding for geology, GIS, wireline log analysis, and outcrop geology. The role would best suit a recent PhD or masters graduate who is interested in the details and is keen to grow.
Salary and hours
AUD$80,000 plus super contribution per year, pro-rated to 2 - 3 days per week to begin with. With the right candidate, we expect this to expand to a full time role and we will actively review salary as your skills grow.
